This factor counts the number of unique winning drivers in a season. Results have ranged from a low of 3 to a high of 11. Bear in mind that the number of races in a season has increased significantly over the years. This penalises early seasons as we have discussed here.
1982 took the prize for this factor with a stunning 11 unique winners over the course of the season. This peak occurred after a steady rise broadly consistent with the sharp increase in the number of races per season. The drop off after 1982 was significant. A few years with 8 winners have been the high points since that 1982 halcyon year including 2012, our overall winner. In recent years we have been at the very lows for this factor as a result of Mercedes dominance.
